Ratings / V4-CCR

V4-CCR.

AA

Carbon Credit Rating, vintage-specific.

For buyers procuring credits from a specific issuance, V4-CCR rates the credit, not just the project.

What V4-CCR is

V4-CCR is a vintage-specific carbon credit rating. It assesses the integrity of a specific credit issuance from a specific year, on a AAA-to-D scale with adjustment factors.

The vintage distinction matters because a project that has performed well historically may have experienced post-issuance events that affect specific vintages. A 2021 issuance from a forestry project may carry deforestation risk from a 2022 fire that a 2023 issuance from the same project does not.

V4-CCR is the appropriate product when you are deciding whether to procure a specific lot of credits from a specific vintage year.

How a V4-CCR is constructed

  1. 01

The monitoring report and verification statement for the specific vintage are ingested and checked for completeness.

  2. 02

Methodology compliance is assessed against the applicable Verra VCS or Gold Standard methodology, plus V4's India-specific extensions.

  3. 03

Satellite data and India-specific sources are integrated: ISRO Bhuvan, FSI, CEA (for RE projects), IMD, Hansen (for forestry), NASA FIRMS (for forestry).

  4. 04

Field verification is conducted for the vintage-year project state, including community interviews in Hindi or regional language.

  5. 05

Six pillar scores are produced (0-100 each): additionality, permanence, leakage, monitoring, social safeguards, environmental safeguards.

  6. 06

Adjustment factors are applied where post-issuance events specifically affect this vintage.

  7. 07

The floor rule is applied: the final grade cannot be more than two grades above the weakest pillar.

  8. 08

The final letter grade is assigned and the V4-CCR report is produced.
